Reuse, Reduce and Recycle with Provison House
Along with our sustainable communities initiative, we are also equally committed to reducing Co2 emission and thereby global warming. Instead of throwing your items away, if you donate them to Provision House, you are helping us and the UK to reduce it’s carbon footprint, making your community and our world a better place to live.
Key Facts about Waste in the UK
The UK generates about 177 million tonnes of waste every year. To put this into perspective, a small car weighs about 1 tonne, so in effect, the UK is throwing away 177,000,000 cars per year. Any business that is throwing away that amount of waste would be seen at the very least irresponsible.
This is obviously a poor use of resources and costs businesses and household money. The environmental damage is enormous, because as waste is sent to landfill, after time, the it produces methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, which is approximately 4 times more powerful that CO2. Landfills also have other deadly side-affects as well as being unsightly.
The Waste Prevention Programme for England
In response to the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011, the ‘Waste Prevention Programme’ for England sets out to, ‘help people and organisations make the most of opportunities to save money by reducing waste’, with more emphasis been placed on reusing and recycling, by following these five steps:
Working Towards Zero Waste Economy
Zero Waste is not about eradicating all waste, but about changing the way all sectors manage resources. “It means using natural resources in the most effective way, as many times as possible, while minimizing impact on the environment.” It is a move to eliminate the need for land-fills with all the environmental damage associated with them. It is also a move to reduce CO2 emissions. By placing goods and items on MyCarousel, we are moving towards a zero waste economy.
