Sometimes we have some fine pieces of furniture but sadly, might we even say frustratingly incomplete. So we find ourselves with a mid 1800’s marquetry table top and a mid 1900’s set of table legs by G Plan from their Liberenza range. And the question becomes what can we best do to keep valuable resources from being skipped?
Our first two photos are, rather obviously, are of the top and legs. Unfortunately the frame is too big for the top but fortunately the legs of the frame are loose. Our first task is to find the central axis of the table top, then disassemble the legs (taking care to label the parts) and finally work out the new frame size. The following photos show part of this process.
After shortening the rails we reglue the frame. Taking care to ensure every component is in its geometrically correct position.
And that’s as far as we’ve got. There’ll be more on this soon.
