Over the last few weeks we’ve had a set of miscellaneous tasks mostly quite straightforward. Here is a selection of what we’ve been up to. First up was the re glue of spindles and the replacement of screws for what would otherwise have been a junked rocking chair.

We have what looks like a C17th Oak Yorkshire Chair. We say looks like because sometimes it’s impossible (certainly for us) to accurately date an object. Is it an original or a copy? We surmise that this is original largely because many of the symmetrical parts are dimensionally different. Anyway a previous owner has skilfully replaced a cross brace without needing to disassemble the chair. However the colour match is poor so we’ve been working to get a better colour match.

A neighbour of ours needs a new door grab. Which one of our volunteers has fixed.

Donated furniture often needs fixing up. This TV unit had a loose top. It was easier to work on upside down before flipping over for a final clean. It now sits in the shop and is for sale.

Workshops need constant maintenance. One of our volunteers has a drill press that needed a new on/off switch. The new switch’s mounting points did not fit the existing ones. So a new ply backing/conversion plate was made. Et Viola!
