Restoration of our original steering wheel.
When the Jag first arrived with us, it came fitted with a lovely, but non original, Moto-Lita steering wheel.
Thankfully, when we rummaged through the additional boxes of parts that accompanied the car, we found the original wheel.
This was important as originality is something we are trying hard to preserve with this car, and being such a prominent part it seemed essential that this was correct.
But there was a problem, it was not in good condition.
You may have read in a previous blog, that on the 7th September, we met Scott Perry at the Himley Classic & Retro Car Show.
Matt offered to restore the wheel for us as this is what he does. He showed us photo’s of his previous work, which I have to say were superb.
Scott recently sent us some photo’s of the work he is painstakingly undertaking on our wheel for us and these are featured here:
So the work is ongoing to cut out, fill and sand back to shape. We wait with anticipation for the end result.
Followers of this blog may or may not know, that these early wheels were designed to be cold riveted onto the boss, this goes some way to explaining the irregular centre hole configuration. This is also why the holes don’t line up with a standard modern boss. If you need them, SNG Barratt can still supply these rivets.
